Potting Sheds — Blissfully Therapeutic
Potting sheds and garden rooms with workbenches are wonderful for keeping your kitchen clean and your green thumb happy. My seedlings are growing, and we’re all ready for a little NY sunshine to get this year’s gardening season started. I love having fresh flowers in the house all year. Whether buying them from the local market or picking fresh cuts from the garden, there is something blissfully therapeutic about creating homemade floral arrangements for every room. Having your own potting bench offers a comfortable place to work while keeping gardening supplies close at hand.
Where to Create Your Potting Area
You can create a potting area in a mudroom, a corner of the garage, a separate garden shed, or a greenhouse. Ideally it will have a water source nearby and a countertop set at a comfortable height for potting plants and pruning. If you are able to have the work area plumbed, install a deep utility sink with a tall-height faucet. A luxurious add-on would be an under-counter refrigerator for storing beverages, potted herbs, or fresh-cut flowers. We have one in our Kitchen Designs showroom kitchen if you want to stop in and have a look. Open shelves can display ready-to-use vases and pots, while closed cabinets can hide potting soil and compost bins. Hooks work well for hanging small garden tools or drying herbs. Potting room cabinetry shown here is from our Wood-Mode line.
When designing the space, balance functionality with style. Choose durable flooring that hides dirt well and provides a place to store potted plants during winter. Throw in a splash of your favorite color. Mix dark and light, metal with wood, or old and new. There are no rules here. It is a perfect place to include salvaged finds and charming antiques. Mixing textures and materials will add plenty of character to your potting room.
Beautiful arrangements & fresh herbs are moments away…
