Stainless Steel Cleaner: How to Clean Stainless Steel Cookware
One of the greatest things about stainless cookware is that you can bring even the worst burnt pan bottoms back to life. Here are a few ways you can get them looking new again. Use nylon-net, or plastic pads and brushes. Don’t use metal scouring pads such as steel wool or abrasive cleaners; they will scratch the surface of the cookware. First, handwash in hot soapy water. Then, if necessary, use a fine powder cleanser, and form it into a paste. We use Bar Keepers Friend but Bon Ami works equally as well. Apply the paste using a soft cloth rubbing with a circular motion. Wash the pot again in hot soapy water, and dry it immediately. You can also wash stainless steel pans in the dishwasher. I have heard some clients say they use baking soda to make them shine.
Important: Do not use oven cleaners or cleansers with chlorine bleach or amonia.
To remove burned-on food, fill the pan with a few inches of warm, soapy water — enough to cover the mess. Let it soak for about an hour. Then put the pan on the burner and boil the soapy water for 5-10 minutes.
