Kitchen Designer: Ken Kelly, CKD, CBD, CR – Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly, Inc. – (See more photos of this project here.)
We just finished this custom Long Island kitchen renovation in Sands Point, New York, and it includes elegant touches of copper into the design –copper sink, copper range hood, copper faucet, copper hardware, copper canisters and other exquisite decorative elements. For this renovation, Ken teamed up with homeowners and Manhattan based interior designer Andrew Petronio, of K A Design Group, to update a historic “Gatsby” era home on the Long Island Sound. The designers preserved key custom elements from the original house including an existing floor, which continued throughout several adjacent rooms.
The kitchen design offers an exciting play of contrasts of rich walnut wood, stone, copper, and glass. Exquisite cabinetry detailing and luxurious finishes create a classic ambiance consistent with the rest of the home. The cabinetry is Bentwood, available exclusively at Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly, and the finish is natural walnut. The designers increased the depth of several wall cabinets allowing for storage of larger plates and serving platters. The custom copper-plated cabinet hardware complements the sink, faucet, and white gold leaf back painted glass backsplash.
As part of the transformation, the kitchen island was enlarged. The walk-in pantry was replaced with large pantries outfitted with rollouts and tray dividers to provide better access and ample storage. The new design allows for a spacious cooking and entertaining environment equipped with professional appliances such as a Wolf gourmet range, Gaggenau wall oven, Viking warming drawer, SubZero refrigeration, Miele dishwasher, and GE microwave. The quartz countertops are by Caesarstone in Lagos Blue.
The kitchen transitions seamlessly to the dining area, kitchen office, and entertainment center complete with a SubZero wine refrigerator and icemaker. The design is completely tailored to the clients’ taste and their family’s needs. There are many ways to add the beauty and warmth of copper into your kitchen design.
