This kitchen features all the elements of a classic Hamptons style home including a mudroom and outdoor-entertaining area. Ken designed the space with an open floor plan connecting several indoor and outdoor entertaining areas including a separate pantry and mudroom for optimal storage and organization. The kitchen and breakfast rooms easily flow to adjoining rooms and to the outdoor living space.
Everything is wide with oversized entryways to maximize flow when entertaining large crowds. There is purposeful redundancy in the design that includes two sinks, two dishwashers, two garbage cabinets, and extra prep counters to accommodate two or more people working simultaneously.
The design includes a larger capacity 36” SubZero refrigerator with two separate SubZero freezer drawers. The open glass buffet and bar area allows for an easy access beverage center and includes an ice maker and SubZero wine cooler.
The white painted Hamptons style Bentwood cabinetry is unique in that you see the hand-painted brush strokes in the catalyzed finish, which warranties the finish for life. The turnbuckle latches and crystal knobs on the cabinet doors give the space old world charm. The hood mantle design includes an offset in the construction of the cabinetry to allow for tile returns on the sides of the upper pullout spice and oil cabinets.
The 48” Wolf Range is flanked with additional spice cabinets and a Rohl pot filler. Other options include rollouts, pot drawers, two tier cutlery dividers, glass shelves with lighting, and additional island storage underneath the stools area. The countertop is Vermont Danby in a honed finish. The honing makes it a little more forgiving as it wears and doesn’t show scratches as easily as gloss. The high ceiling is detailed with V-grove wood planking and the 5” oak floor throughout makes the kitchen warm and inviting. Other Resources: Lighting is from Restoration Hardware. Faucets are Rohl (Perrin & Rowe). Sinks are Lenova.
A separate simple pantry closet was added for extra storage.
We added a classic mudroom with bead-board back, cubbies, and hooks space for baskets and molding details. After all…the secret to a great kitchen is a great mudroom.
